The tale he tells is this: two huge stone legs are all that remains standing of a statue. It goes right into the story itself, which is a weird and mysterious thing to do. It goes from ‘meeting’ the traveller to him recounting the tale: no ‘how’s it going?’ no ‘how are you?’ no ‘Would you like me to tell you a marvellous tale?’. I kind of imagine this traveller almost stopping Shelley in the street to share this tale with him. In the second line, we get the opening of the story he tells, which is kind of peculiar in itself. The fact that the traveller has no name and isn’t from a particular place just makes what he has to say even more universal. The universality of power is the message of the poem, and to have such a vague description is really great, because it leaves so much more to the imagination. It makes it more universal, as if many ancient civilisations could have such statues as he describes later. It could be Macchu Pichu, the Aztecs, the Incas, the Mayans, the Hun… the fact that Egypt is not mentioned specifically is important, because it means it’s also another level of vague old mystery. Still, it adds another little shot of mystery right in there, with the vagueness of the place. ![]() The “antique land” is a little ambiguous, as is the title, but you don’t have to be an Egyptologist to know that Egypt is the place in question. was born in) the antique land, since that just sounds more marvellously mysterious. he was born there?) or a traveller who’s come back from the “antique land”? For me, I like to think that he’s a traveller that came from (i.e. Is the traveller FROM the antique land (i.e. The first line of the poem gives us a bit of context: the traveller is from “an antique land” – it’s still a little ambiguous though. In this post, I’m focusing on the language, ideas and views expressed in the poem. Shelley would feel no hesitation at all in writing a poem directly criticising Mad King George, believe me! To recap: Ozymandias is a sonnet, but please don’t try to link it to love rather link it to the sonnet traditions of John Milton if you must the poem isn’t about a particular statue being brought to England, more the phenomenon of Egyptology which was particularly popular at the time Shelley was writing the poem could be a critique of King George III among others, but it’s not specifically about him. I also looked a little at the sonnet form. Their statues may still be seen but within a space of them, they will decay eventually get destroyed. In the last post, I had a look at some of the myths, fallacies and truths around the context of Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley, to help GCSE English Literature candidates for AQA make sense of what’s out there. Within a space of time, their wicked rule and works are forgotten. The wicked ones reign supreme only to end up leaving everything. In all, the central theme of the poem is focused on the futility of clinging to power in a wicked manner. The former great Ramses II Empire is now an empty desert. He’s no longer the King of Kings as engraved on the statue. The engraved wordings on the pedestal no longer have any meaning since the works of the king have already been destroyed. The only thing left for him is the dilapidating statue which keeps on shattering by the day. Hence, the name "Ozymandias" actually mocks King Ramses II and also ridicules his empire and rule. From this interpretation, there’s nothing left for the Ramses Ii Empire. Hence, the full name literally translates to "ruler of air". The "Ozy" in the name means "air’ while "Mandias" means "to rule". Actually, what is written is "Ozymandias King of Kings, Look on my works, ye mighty and despair". ![]() The poet goes ahead to describe the details seen on the pedestal of the statue. The sculptor who created the image captured Ramses’ personality judging from the facial expression of the statue. During his time, he was seen as a very wicked ruler. He describes the dilapidating statue as representing the symbols of Ramses personality. He recounts his experience when he met a traveler in the ancient Egypt where the statue of Ramses II was seen positioned at a spot. In the poem, Shelley describes the remains of Ramses II Empire which is also referred to as "Ozymandias". The major theme of the sonnet is centered on the unavoidable decline of all wicked world leaders and their great empires. Both poets were competing with each other in their write-ups. ![]() The other "Ozymandias" written by Horace Smith, Shelley’s friend is also a sonnet. This means, it’s written as a 14-line poem. Shelley wrote the poem in competition with Horace Smith, his friend who equally wrote another "Ozymandias". ![]() It was published in the January, 1818 issue of "The Examiner" in London. "Ozymandias" is a poem written by Percy Shelley.

The real challenge is the bosses that reside in each of the five levels in Sifu. I can use the environments to my advantage, reposition myself for better one-on-one engagements, or use my resources at the right time so that I come out with reasonable health to tackle the next room filled with goons. Once I'd finished the game multiple times, I felt like I was choreographing my own martial arts action scene on the spot. You can only go far by just spamming the same move over and over as this game is all about thinking on your feet and using the appropriate move for the given situation in front of you. It’s a combat system that complements players using all of the tools at their disposal – parry, dodge, combos, knockbacks, grabs, etc. The combat in Sifu features a system where you can beat an opponent by lowering his health or building their Structure gauge enough to make them vulnerable to a finishing blow. It was frustrating at the start, but I eventually learned how to overcome each roadblock with enough trial and error, aided by access to useful moves that make certain encounters more palatable. Sifu is a game that features multiple gauntlets that challenge your knowledge of the game. These moves also reminded me of action stars such as Donny Yen or Jet Li in their prime.Įach run resulted in me getting better at the game, inching closer to the game’s end, and at even younger ages compared to my previous run. It took awhile for me to fully understand the game’s combat, which has a long list of combos and moves that slowly become accessible to you as you progress through the game. It’s a nice trade-off as it makes the player more effective in fights, but lessens room for error, making it much harder, or much easier – it depends on how efficient you are with the game’s combat system. Reaching a prominent point in one’s life –for example, one’s thirties – will result in you dishing out more damage in this game, but at the cost of a lower total life pool. There are ways to reduce how much a death ages your character, but if you’re not careful, you can find yourself hitting your senior years at the start of the game, which is not ideal. Die again you get older by two years, so on and so forth. It’s a fascinating concept for a roguelike action game, as each death in this game makes your character older. Simplicity: OmniPlan is easy to use – a little experiment and you should be creating complex project plans and proposals in a few hours. So I’ll briefly touch on what I most like about OmniPlan: the beauty all these features (bar one) persisting across both Mac and iOS versions of the app. With a view to an in-depth comparison, I’m working with a handful of project management solutions for Apple’s platforms. There are also powerful automation features developed with Apple’s former automation wizard, Sal Soghoian, while the iOS version includes Scribble support. I love the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." As Douglas Adams once wrote, "I love deadlines. If you’re anything like me, a tool like this is a useful way to ensure you don’t end up promising a schedule you simply cannot deliver. The app also boasts a tool you can use to stress test projects, called "Monte Carlo simulations." This is basically a series of automated tests in which OmniPlan simulates what happens if parts of a project are delayed in order to deliver a relatively credible assessment of the likelihood the project will be delivered on time. Manual task scheduling and support for scheduling recurring tasks (daily, weekly, monthly) should help project managers focus on what needs to be done. To dive into project details, project managers can use a new view in which the entire window shows the project outline. You can zoom out or zoom into project status using the task roll-up option, which automatically collapses sub-tasks and milestones into a single line in the Gantt chart. OmniGroupĪlready available for Mac, it's now also available on iPhone and iPad in an integration which means you won’t need to re-learn how the app behaves to make use of it on all the supported platforms. This makes it a little easier to automate elements of project management that you might otherwise forget. That’s useful, but what makes it more useful is that you can choose when you want to sync this data or share it in PDFs or other formats. ![]() You can also sync your plan across members of your team, so long as they are running the app. So, for example, in the event you are working on a complex project and a component is running late you will receive a "violation warning" that lets you know this in order that you can manage the impact. At the same time, it’s easily possible to ignore the more powerful tools - you’ll still have excellent insight into what you are working to achieve. What drives the app is the notion that beginning use should be relatively approachable, while more powerful tools and the capacity to zoom in for additional insights into project progress should also be available. In an interesting aside, Case noted his father was an industrial engineer working for Boeing who made extensive use of Gantt charts using pen and paper as he managed huge-scale projects. To help, he built his father a work scheduling app on his first computer, an Atari 800. “We didn't want people to be limited because they found the app didn’t have enough depth for what they wanted to do,” Case said. “We wanted it to be easy for them to capture a project, get into it and organize it to the level of depth they need - to grow into the project and become more advanced in using the app as needs grow.”Īt the same time, Omni also wanted to ensure its project management solution could meet the needs of complex projects. That’s why you’ll find increasingly powerful features nested inside OmniPlan. They don't have a lot of time to just spend in project management tools the whole day, they don't want to spend a lot of time when they're working with it. I spoke with OmniGroup founder and CEO Ken Case, who explained the fundamental aim of the software:“OmniPlan is designed for project managers, typically, that's their professional role, sometimes they're dedicated project managers - but it can also be somebody for whom this is one of many hats. It means project managers can easily assess overall project status and also swiftly focus on deeper project data to stay on top. ![]() It also supports dark mode, syncs automatically (and speedily) via iCloud, and does a great job helping project managers assemble complex tasks within Gantt Charts. They also redubbed the first three movies. In 2004, Funimation began to redub the first two sagas of Dragon Ball Z, to remove the problems that were caused by their previous partnership with Saban. Funimation did the dubbing on their own this time around with their voice actors. Starting with the Captain Ginyu Saga on Cartoon Network, censorship was reduced due to fewer restrictions on cable programming. This censorship often had unintentionally humorous results, such as changing all references to death, so the dead characters were merely going to "another dimension", and digitally altering two ogres' shirts to read "HFIL" instead of " HELL". When it was first marketed in the US, the distribution company Funimation alongside Saban decided to initially focus exclusively on the young children's market, because the anime market was still small compared to the much larger children's cartoon market. This re-cut is titled Dragon Ball Z Kai.ĭragon Ball Z was marketed to appeal to a wide range of viewers from all ages and contains crude humor and occasional excesses of violence which are commonly seen as inappropriate for younger audiences by American standards. In April 2009, a new 'refresh' of Dragon Ball Z began airing on Japanese television. In Australia it was shown on both Cartoon Network and Network 10 with Cartoon Network airing it in around 1997-1999 and Channel 10 from 1999-2004. After the finished run, it was repeated daily, until Toonami merged with Cartoon Network. The Majin Buu Saga, Fusion Saga and Kid Buu Saga were later broadcast on CNX, which later changed its name to Toonami, with the show ending on February 28, 2003. It aired in the UK, with the same dubbing problem, on Cartoon Network, premiering on March 6, 2000, and running on that channel until 2002. ![]() It was also shown in Canada on YTV around the same time. In the U.S., the series initially aired in first-run syndication from September 13, 1996, to May 23, 1998, and then aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami block from August 31, 1998, to April 7, 2003, though not always with the same continuity of dubbing (for details on the dubbing problems, see Ocean Group dubs and Funimation dub). 19 years after the end of Dragon Ball Z in Japan, a new sequel series titled Dragon Ball Super premiered with original concepts by Akira Toriyama, taking place after the death of Kid Buu but before Dragon Ball Z's ending. After Dragon Ball Z, the story of Goku and friends continues in the anime-only series Dragon Ball GT, which is not based on a manga by Akira Toriyama but is a project by Toei Animation using the same characters and storyline that serves as a sequel to Dragon Ball Z. Toriyama's humor/parody manga Nekomajin, released after Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, features several concepts introduced in the series, and several Dragon Ball Z characters make various appearances in this manga. The character designs for Dragon Ball Z were created by Minoru Maeda from the Raditz Saga to the Cell Games Saga and Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru from the Great Saiyaman Saga to the Peaceful World Saga. Like Dragon Ball, the music for Dragon Ball Z was composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi. The series average rating was 20.5%, with its maximum being 27.5% ( Episode 218) and its minimum being 12.1% ( Episode 273). The anime first premiered in Japan on Ap(on Fuji TV) at 7:30 p.m. The other names the production was considering for this second series before they settled on Dragon Ball Z were Dragon Ball: Gohan's Big Adventure, New Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball 2, Dragon Ball Wonder Boy, and Dragon Ball 90. The anime also features characters, situations and back-stories not present in the original manga. The separation between the series is also significant as the latter series takes on a more dramatic and serious tone.
